The 28,500 square foot facility houses 12 classrooms, indoor and outdoor play and garden areas, offices and support spaces for infants, Early Head Start and Head Start programs. In addition, the new energy-efficient facility includes administrative spaces, meeting spaces for community, parents and staff, kitchen and laundry facilities, speech therapy and "sick bay" space, and secure drop-off and pick-up zones. The layout, spatial details and design are in keeping with Head Start standards and best practices and have been considered state of the art for Early Childhood Education in the Rapid City community. RAI has hosted visitors from YFS, Black Hills Energy, Regional Health, and numerous other organizations since opening the doors in January 2019.
The total cost of construction was approximately $5 million, with an additional $2.2 million needed for land and improvements and we have raised almost $7 million of that total to date, leaving us with about $300,000 is still left to raise.
